Operation: Fresh Start
What is Operation: Fresh Start?
Operation: Fresh Start is an APS Health Services opportunity for at-risk students to be referred to participate in a FREE, confidential laundry service, at school, during the school day.
Which schools can participate?
All schools within APS are invited to participate.
They will need:
Machines
Infrastructure
Staff to manage logistics
Which students can participate?
Students falling under at-risk demographics within the following subgroups:
Title I/Low SES
McKinney-Vento
Migrant
Intersectional/Multi-categorial
How will students be referred to participate in the program?
1-5% of each campus’ most needy families will be referred by the school principal, assistant principal(s), counselor(s), or nurse(s). Teachers and support staff who work closely with our students are encouraged to bring student referral suggestions to these staff members’ attention.
When will the program begin?
Our projected launch date is the week of September 7, 2021.
How will the program be managed?
Once machines are functional and ready at participating schools, students will be referred by designated staff via a Google Form shared with them by the building principal. Because our students’ families’ needs change over time, referrals will be ongoing throughout the 2021-2022 school year.
APS Health Services will provide:
Mesh bags
Dye-and Fragrance-free Detergent
Monthly surprise gifts of basic toiletries and other hygiene products
Campus staff will provide:
Infrastructure and location
Scheduling and monitoring of campus site program.
Thank you for your support and interest in this exciting new opportunity for our students and families!
