APS Devices & Internet Access

At Alamogordo Public Schools (APS), we believe that every child should have access to technology and internet connectivity to develop the skills that will prepare them for a successful future in education and the workplace. As part of our commitment to providing students, teachers, and staff with access to digital resources that will promote educational excellence, APS is providing the opportunity for families to check out a mobile hotspot and/or Chromebook for students to gain access to the internet at home.

Internet Access

APS provides mobile hotspots to families who need internet access to support their child’s remote learning. Priority is given to students whose families indicated need in the annual Digital Equity Data form or whose economic status has changed.

To obtain a hotspot:

  • Contact your child’s school: School staff can help determine eligibility and assist with the checkout process.

  • Visit the APS Administrative Building: You can also visit the APS Administrative Building (1211 Hawaii Ave, Bldg A) during regular business hours to inquire about a hotspot. A parent or guardian must sign an Acceptable Use Agreement to check out a device.

Please note that hotspots are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

School Bus Managed Wireless Connectivity

Students without internet at home face additional barriers to completing their homework, have lower graduation rates, and score lower on standardized tests when compared to their well-connected peers – even before the pandemic. School bus wifi helps bridge that digital divide.

All APS school buses are now equipped with Kajeet SmartBus. This easy-to-use WiFi solution enables students to keep learning while they travel. Up to 65 students can connect at one time, making SmartBus ideal for daily bus routes, field trips, and mobile STEM labs. Our wifi-equipped buses fill the homework gap for dozens of students at a time.

Chromebook Request

K-8 students use Chromebooks in class for online learning. If your child needs a Chromebook for homework because they don't have one at home, you can:

  • Contact your child’s school: School staff can help determine eligibility and the checkout process.

  • Visit the APS Administrative Building: You can visit the APS Administrative Building (1211 Hawaii Ave, Bldg A) during regular business hours. A parent or guardian must sign an Acceptable Use Agreement to check out a device.

Please note that any checked-out hotspots or Chromebooks must be returned to your child's school or the district administrative building at the end of the school year.
