APS & Elior Staff standing behind a red ribbon ready to cut

Tuesday, January 14, 2025 - Alamogordo, NM – Alamogordo Public School District

Alamogordo Public Schools is excited to share the successful launch of the newly enhanced Tiger Food Court at Alamogordo High School. The ribbon-cutting ceremony, held on Monday, January 13, 2025, marked the beginning of a new chapter in student dining. The event was attended by APS administrative leadership, School Board Secretary Craig Danekas, and leadership from K-12 by Elior, the district’s student nutrition contractor. Student Nutrition Coordinator Sandra Davis toured the attendees through the new and upgraded stations and answered questions as they sampled delicious new menu offerings.

“Alamogordo Public Schools has consistently been a leader in providing innovative dining experiences for students,” said Davis. “We’re thrilled to unveil these beautifully designed stations that go beyond the traditional school cafeteria experience. Our goal is to create a space where students can enjoy diverse, high-quality scratch-made meals in an inviting and modern environment.”

The revamped Tiger Food Court features vibrant wall wraps that define each food court choice, creating a visually engaging and student-friendly atmosphere. New equipment and expanded menu options provide even more variety, enhancing both the quality and efficiency of the dining experience. By enabling students to line up for their preferred cuisine, the food court’s design reduces wait times and minimizes food waste.

What’s New?

New Food Stations: The addition of the Bread & Bowl station brings made-to-order subs on scratch-made gourmet bread alongside self-serve toppings and a build-your-own salad option.

Upgraded Classic Station: Featuring a state-of-the-art flattop grill with a 4-foot cooking surface, the Classic Station will offer made-to-order omelets, Bananas Foster French toast, stir-fries, Philly cheesesteaks, and smash burgers just to name a few of the scratch-made items on the way.

Expanded Menus: The Ramen station introduced last school year now includes additional soups, and single-serve Italian pasta bowls have been added at the Pizza station, catering to diverse student tastes.

Interim Superintendent Michael Crabtree emphasized the importance of the upgrades, stating, “This is more than just a cafeteria upgrade; it’s an investment in our students’ well-being. By improving efficiency and offering greater variety, we ensure that every student has access to healthy meals that fuel their learning and growth.”

Students expressed excitement about the changes, highlighting the impact of the new options:

“I love the new options; I love the pasta; it’s really cheesy, but my favorite so far has been the sandwiches,” said Senior Abigail Anderson, who also serves as the School Board’s Student Ex Officio.

Sophomore Arianna Tucker shared, “The Mongolian food is great. They have plenty of options, like the orange chicken and the noodles, which are the best with the teriyaki sauce. There’s also a bunch of vegetables and rice. I think it’s great to be able to choose from all the different food options, try different flavors, and explore so many choices!”

The Tiger Food Court upgrades reflect Alamogordo Public Schools’ ongoing commitment to excellence in student nutrition and innovation. Currently, 90% of the food served at AHS is scratch-made, and 80% of the food at the middle & elementary schools is scratch-made. Pair that with the expanded meal options for after-school programs, traveling sports/clubs, and the Fresh Fruit & Veggie program in our elementary schools; each of these nutrition programs is another step forward in ensuring every student receives the support they need to thrive.
